February Lookback - Our Trip to Copenhagen

Dobry den,

It’s February already, oh how the time flies. Another month here at TOTEM is over and we are already in the middle of our volunteer year. February has been a busy month. My start in the month was an interview with a possible future school. On the same day, Livia and I went to visit the velke divadlo. We saw swan lake. It was a really nice performance and we had a good time there.

We went on a small trip from Thursday to Sunday the same week. Our trip took us to Copenhagen where I played tourguide for Livia because I had been there before. Livia and I both loved it there, although the weather was rather bad, most people were super nice and welcoming. After arriving in Copenhagen and walking from the airport to our hotel, we decided to take a train to the city center. Because it was already around 6 p.m. at that point, our walk was during the evening twilight. We saw Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv In the dark. On Friday, our designated sightseeing day, we walked 30.000 steps (that’s around 20 km). We saw all of the well known tourist spots like the little mermaid, Amalienborg, Rosenborg, Rundetårn, Frederiks Kirke, Nyhavn, Christiania, Vor Frelsers Kirke and many others.

On Saturday we originally planned to go shopping in the second hand and thrift stores that Copenhagen is known for. We ended up buying nothing because of the expensive prices. Although we didn’t end up buying any clothes, we bought books from a book sale where every book cost 49 dkr (so 7€ / 175 Kč) and postcards. We had an amazing time there, despite the fact that I was exhausted at times. We woke up at 5:30 on Sunday because we had to catch an early flight. After leaving the hotel we went to the supermarket to get some breakfast. Then we took the train to the airport and had to wait a while at the security checkpoint.

After we got back, we continued with our normal rhythm at TOTEM. February brings many special things. Aside from the trip to Copenhagen and the ballet, I also had my very first nail appointment. I went together with Livia and the first thing I noticed was the smell, although it got less noticeable with time. It was a weird mix between funny and stressful. They didn’t speak English and our Czech was not good enough to communicate so we just showed them a picture. I couldn’t get my original design so I just let them do what they wanted. They came out really nice.

I went back home on Friday because the election was approaching in germany. It was my first time voting on a national level. It was great to be back home for the weekend. I got to spend some time with my family and met some friends that are currently not going to school because of the winter holidays in saxony.  On the 23.2.my friend and I took the train back to Prague and  went to a concert in the evening. The artist’s name is David Kushner. It was an amazing concert, the opening act brought the whole crowd in motion. My friend and I enjoyed the atmosphere, the songs and the passion of the singer.
